How to create, or add, your own maps?

Before adding your own map(s), please check the list of maps on RIP.ie to make sure it is not already available.

To add or create a new map to add to the database, click the "Maps" tab in the Funeral Directors Area.

Then click the "Add Map" button.

This opens the program for creating your own map(s), with the marker positioned in the centre of Ireland, by default.

To create your map:

1. Select the "Map Category", or map type, from the dropdown menu, in the example below, Church of Ireland (CoI).

2. Fill in the name of the Church, in this example, St. Nicholas' Church. To make it easy to find this church in a list, I insert the town in front of the name, as shown. If the church is known by an alternative name, include this too. In this example, the church is also known locally as "The Green Church".

3. Enter the county & town from the dropdown menus and click "Get position by address".

4. This moves the marker to the town you have selected, allowing you to "drag & drop" the marker in the appropriate place.

This job can be made easier if you also know the street name. Simply enter this in the box provided under address and once again click "Get position by address". This refines your map, so that you can now "drag & drop" the place marker in front of the church to mark its position on the map.

5. Using the + and - tools on the left hand sliding scale, zoom in and out of the map to inspect it more closely. Then drag the "little man" at the top of the sliding scale and drop him on the marker to see this map in "street view", shown in the example below. This allows you to see the actual church, to check that you have placed the marker in the correct position.

6. Once you have checked and you are happy that you have placed the marker in the correct position, click save.

7. Your newly created map will display at the top of your list of maps, by default. You can then edit that map (for a limited time) and / or move to your list of "favourites". Once in your favourites, you can then move any map to the top or bottom of your list, to suit your needs.

NOTE: RIP.ie is alerted each time a new map is added to the database and will check this map soon after it is added. Until a map is validated by RIP.ie, it can still be edited by the funeral director who created it, by clicking the "Edit" button. Once a map has been validated by RIP.ie it can no longer be edited and its status changes to "View".
